About
midwife. educator. contemplative
I am a feminist nurse-midwife, educator, and mindfulness practitioner and teacher. My work as a midwife is grounded the reproductive justice framework developed by Sistersong, and informed by research on trauma-informed care, interpersonal neurobiology, and Mindfulness-Based Childbirth and Parenting.
Over the past ten years I have worked in nearly every clinical setting, including hospital-based practice, free-standing birth center, home birth, and community health. I am a passionate clinical educator and have precepted midwifery students for over five years. I currently work as a per diem midwife with several Portland-area practices while homeschooling my son and pursuing artistic passions in paper/bookbinding and textile arts.
My areas of clinical interest include perinatal mental health, mindfulness-based interventions, narrative medicine, and medical humanities. I am a certified Perinatal Mental Health Provider through Postpartum Support International and have participated in trainings through the NW Narrative Medicine Collaborative.
During the 2024-2025 year, I was a Contemplative Medicine Fellow with the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care. During my fellowship year, I explored the clinical education research literature around tolerance of clinical uncertainty among medical students and residents; and implications for the development of educational interventions grounded in contemplative practices for midwifery students and new graduates.
